A headcollar can make handling easier by guiding the dog’s head rather than relying only on pressure around the neck. It should be introduced gradually and used with calm lead handling. The Gencon is a training aid rather than a substitute for teaching comfortable loose-lead walking.

How to Measure

Using a soft tape, measure around the muzzle, cross beneath the chin and continue around the back of the head in one continuous measurement. Add approximately 3 inches to allow room for putting the headcollar on and taking it off, then select the nearest size.

• Medium: approximately 31 inches
• Large: approximately 35 inches
• Extra Large: approximately 39 inches

How to Use

Introduce the headcollar at home when your dog is calm. Reward them for looking at, touching and placing their nose through it before gradually increasing the wearing time. Practise indoors or in the garden before walking in busier places.

Safety Information

Recommended for dogs aged six months and over. Fit according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring your dog can pant comfortably and the loop cannot enter the eyes. Never jerk the lead, tether a dog by the headcollar or leave it on an unattended dog. This is not a muzzle and does not prevent biting. Stop use if rubbing, distress or breathing restriction occurs.

Don’t put it on and head straight into a busy walk. A few short, treat-filled practice sessions at home can make all the difference and help your dog see the headcollar as something positive.
